Dominic S.
TU Delft
The Starting Point
Dominic was studying at a top international school in Shanghai, predicted to score 43 out of 45 in the IB, and consistently performing at the top of his class in Math and Physics.
The problem was not academic ability. When asked what he actually wanted to study, there was no clear answer. As applications approached, the lack of direction began affecting decisions around universities, extracurriculars, essays, and internships.
What Changed
His counselor started by mapping Dominic’s interests. Mathematical problem-solving and technical subjects pointed toward Industrial Engineering, while his interest in leadership and real-world impact also made Business Management worth exploring.
Each path was compared across market demand and long-term opportunities, academic fit, and flexibility if his interests changed later.
Dominic was also connected with professionals working in these fields so he could understand what the day-to-day work actually looked like. He ultimately committed to Industrial Engineering with a clear understanding of why.
TU Delft
By the time Dominic built his university list, he was targeting specific programs and countries aligned with a defined academic and career direction.
He secured offers from TU Delft and ETH Zurich and entered university confident that he was on the right path.
